The Serenity of Falling Snow

Many scenes in nature can have a calming effect on individuals. One in particular in the image of falling snow. It is common for people to sit at there windows during a snow fall, watching it come down. Also, it can be relaxing to stand out in the snow, letting the snowflakes catch on your tongue and hands. This is a typical experience for children, who especially enjoy having snowball fights, making snow angels, and otherwise spending time out in the snow as it is falling. The first snow fall of the year is particularly magical for many people.

The serenity that is experienced by looking out at the falling snow, or being out in nature during a snow fall, occurs because we tend to slow down and enjoy the moment. The beauty of nature does amazing things when we take the time to truly recognize it. Our mind’s likely associate it with warm and snuggly feelings coming from curling up near a fire and having hot chocolate. The brightness of the snow is in contrast to the gray winter day or dark night, which actually may help to lift our glum moods that so commonly occur during the winter months.

Although snow can be a hassle to walk in, and often will lead to ice, merely looking at it is calming to many people’s minds. Next time there is a snow storm, bring a chair over to the window, grab a hot beverage and a blanket, and enjoy the scene before you.
