JJuly and August in the tallgrass prairie is the best time to film or photograph a diversity of flowering prairie plants. Specks of orange, red, purple, pink and white can be seen all over the tallgrass prairie, while the big bluestem towers over your head. Butterflies can be found across the prairie as they visit flower after flower. The prairie is also at its peak, with the grasses and fall-blooming plants starting to dominate.

It’s probably my favorite time to be out on the prairie.

Because the sun rises so early in the summer, I’m pretty much guaranteed to have the whole prairie to myself.

Early mornings in July are also nice because it’s much cooler at first light than it is midday.

For me July on the tallgrass prairie is like Christmas. Everywhere I look nature is providing me with new gifts to film!
And as always, shoot the ordinary and make it extraordinary!
